Leases on new building space were written on 0.73 million square feet of office space, bringing the total for the first half of the year to 2.01 million square feet, up 26 percent from 1.46 million square feet in the first half of 1989.

In suburban Maryland, 1.53 million square feet of space were leased in the first half of 1990, down 6 percent from 1.63 in the first half of 1989.

In Northern Virginia the total was 1.93 million square feet, down 25 percent from 2.57 million square feet in 1989.
