Tracy Jackson of Paint Branch has ousted Chamberlain's Mide Ray as the leading scorer in area high school basketball with an average of 29.6 points per game. Ray, the area's top scorer since the season's beginning, was shut out last Tuesday by Theodore Roosevelt and dropped under 30 points per game (27.9) for the first time this season.
Jackson has scored more than 30 points in seven of 13 game, including the last four in a row. He holds almost a two-point lead over Maryland rival Booty Neal of Oxon Hill, who averages 27.8. Ray's 7.7-point lead over Coolidge's Claude Gregory has shrunk to a 4.4-point margin in the Interhigh scoring parade.
Jimmy Newsome of Model School for the Deaf has dropped out of the Private and Independent lead for the Sherrill of Wakefiled in the Virginia race, 25.1 to 24.3.
In the Girls' Top 10, Chris Gedney of Gaithersburg is till atop the list, only three-tenths of a point ahead of Giner Rouse of Robinson first time. With only 22 points in his last two games, Newsome (23.4) has been supplanted by Greg Deegan of O'Connell (23.9).
