Mark Roth, the Professional Bowlers Association's leading money-winner on the 1977 tour, heads a field of 144 in the $75,000 Fair Lanes Open at the Fair Lanes Bowl in Springfield this week.
Roth, 25 from Staten Island, N. Y.,won the Las Vegas Showboat Invitational in January and has collected more than $43,000 after 13 weeks on the current tour. He has been in the top-third money for the past 37 consecutive weeks.
The Fair Lanes Open is the 14th stop on the 16-meet tour culminating with the Tournament of Champions in Akron, Ohio, other recent tour winners who will compete here include Johnny Patraglia, recent winner of the U. S. Open in Greenshoro. N. C.: PBA President Dick Ritger, who took the AMF Classic in Garden City, N. J., Gary Dickiinson, who won the Fair Lanes title in 1975, and Curt Schmidt who won the event last year in Baltimore.
More than 800 will participate in youth and adult pro-am tournaments at Fair Lanes, beginning Monday at 4 p. m., the PBA championships begin Wednesday morning. The title matches will be carried on ABC-TV (WMAL-TV) Saturday at 3.30 p. m.
