Two victories by distance runner Curtis Alitzpaced Army to an 83-80 win over Navy today for the Cadet's first tqack and field triumph over the Mids in six years.

With Dave Wiener leading a sweep of the hammer throw with a toss of 57.70 meters, the Cadets pled up a 26-point advantage midway through the meet. Army was helped by winning the 400-meter relay for the first time this season when the Midshipmen dropped the baton on the third leg.

Navy made a comeback with Ray Pietrzak pacing a sweep of the poe vault, going 14 feet 6 inches, junior Rick Anderson winning the triple jump in 46-7 1/4, Tim Rose the 800-meter run in 1:53.8 and Mike Dinn and Doug Stone placing one-two in the 100 meters.

Following those triumphs, Navy had the lead for the first time, 67-64. But Mike Paterson and Ivory Carson ran one-two in the 400-intermediate hurdles to put Army back in front, 72-68. Then Clay Slack, with a win in the 200-meter dash, gave the Cadets a 77-72 advantage. Alitz sealed the meet victory for Army by winning the 5,000-meter run in 14:49.8.

Early in the day, the Cadet runner set a Thomson field and meet record in winning the 3000-meter steeple-chase in 9:03.5. He was the meet's only double winner.
