Ralph Palladin of Lanham will square off with Irish Gene Wells of Orlando, Fla., in a matchup of veteran junior middleweights in the 12-round feature fight in a six-event card at 8 o'clock tonight at Capital Centre.
In another 12-rounder, Adelphi's Ronnie McGarvey faces Miguel Meza of Los Angeles in a featherweight clash. In a pair of 10-round middleweight fights, Leo (Kid) Saenz meets Bob Payton and Jimmy Savage fights Tyrone Phelps.
Also on the card is a six-round heavyweight bout between Ira Martin of Baltimore and Tyrone Harlee of New York and a four-round light heavyweight match between Landover's Leonard Langley and Frank Elem of New York.
Palladin, a four-time All-Navy champ as an amateur and a top contender for the middleweight crown in 1971-72, has won 29, lost 4 and drawn 2, with 11 knockouts.
Palladin's opponent, Wells, has laced up the gloves 71 times as a pro and has a 55-11-5 mark with 24 knockouts.
McGarvey, an ambidextrous power puncher who fights from a southpaw stance, saw a 30-fight win streak come to an end last November, losing an eight-round decision to William Berry in Philadelphia.
Potomac resident Saenz takes an impressive record of 23-3-2 with 15 knockouts against the relatively inexperienced Payton, 11-4, out of Camden, N.J.
Tickets are priced at $12.50, $10, $7.50 and $5.
