It's tough being an American League All-Star, tougher yet if your name is Controversial Reggie Jackson. Now the melodramatic Yankee right fielder can't even walk from the stadium to his Rolls-Royce without a hassle.

Report from the N.Y.P.D. 44th Precinct in the wake of the All-Star Game: "At 12:45 a.m., as Jackson approached his car in parking lot No. 14, a group of youngsters was in the lot and made remarks to Jackson. Jackson chased them through the gate onto a mall where he grabbed one of them and supposedly knocked him to the ground."

Chris Howe, 13, of the Bronx, and his mother sought to file an assult complaint yesterday, the boy alleging the ballplayer stepped on his wrist after felling. Detectives determined the youth wasn't physically injured enough to warrant as assult charge, but told the complainants they could try for a summons on a charge of harassment. They may do that today.

Jackson contends he was the one harassed, and abused and:

"The lid fell down, and as he did, Scotty (George Scott of the Red Sox) reached me, put his hand on me, and said, 'Let's go back to the car' . . . I never touched the kid" . . .
