Betty Looney, of Army Navy's championship team, has won two District amateur titles. But she had never won a women's District Golf Association tournament until yesterday when her net 71 captured the 50th Corby Cup at Columbia Country Club. A field of 66 of the area's top golfers competed.
Looney has been a key figure in the WDGA team matches every year eight of last nine WDGA titles.
Sally Voss, 19, the Stanford University junior from Congressional, added another title to her long list when she took the low-gross prize with an eight-over-par 82, on a match of cards with Nancy Hollenback of Army Navy.
Nancy Duncan of Belle Haven appeared to be the net winner with a 74 until Looney, one of the last to finish, came in with her score of 81 minus a 10 handicap.
Looney played consistently all day, making the turn in 41 and coming back in 40. . She had 11 pars and seven bogeys for her round.
ville Country Club for the low score in the Middle Atlantic PGA pro-junior golf tournament yesterday. Other competition took place at Chantilly and at the Naval Academy.
Burke, 17, a junior at Walt Whitman High School, had three birdies and one bogey. He was four strokes ahead of Jeff Weber, 15 of Hobbit's Glen, who shot 72 at Laytonsville.
