Pat Fischer's back problem has improved enough for him to begin running again on Monday and team physician Stanford Lavine said he was very encouraged about the progress the little cornerback has made over the last few days.
Lavine examined Fischer on Monday and told him to take it easy for the rest of the week. If there is no pain, Fischer will be allowed to start jogging Monday at Redskin Park.
"It's much better than it was last week," Fischer reported from his home in Leesburg, Va. "I've gone the last four days without very much pain at all, and I have to feel good about that. Yes, I'm encouraged, too.
"We're still going on a day-to-day basis. But I'd like to go to Redskin Park and just try and walk. I'll walk for 20 minutes, then lay down awhile, and walk another 15 minutes and see how that feels.
"I just feel good about it right now because there's hardly any pain. I drove up to Carlisle and back today to pick up all my things, and it's not even bothering pretty soon. But I'm more hopeful about playing than I was a couple of weeks ago.
