Radio station KCBJ has joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers football network - that's KCJB in Minot, N.D., 2,138 miles from Tampa.

In the Tampa area, suddenly there are "Why Not Minot" buttons and "RH Positive - a Bucs Transfusion" T-shirts.

What's happening? Excitement over the cinderella rookie quarterback, Randy Hedberg out of teensy Minot State, who stepped over the bodies of injured Mike Boryla and Gary Huff into a starting assignment and won one for the suffering, 0-14 last year, expansion club last week. For John McKay & Co., 14-0 over Baltimore represents triumphant progress even if it was only an exhibition.

Now Hedberg - "Randy Iceberg." "The Minot Flash," or as teammate Anthony Davis tags him by way of keeping the North Dakotan's head the right size, "Lonesome Polecat" - starts the NFL opener Sunday against Philadelphia. And if things keep on keeping' on, by the time the Redskins invade Tampa for Game 4 on Oct. 9, those buttons will be in profusion.

Wonder who will quarterback the Redskins that day?. . .
