The first Hoya Invitational Tournament highlights the 1977-78 basketball schedule announced by Georgetown University yesterday. St. Leo Xavier of New Orleans and Georgia will provide the competition Dec. 10-11 at McDonough Gymnasium.
Georgetown also will be involved in two other tournaments: the first annual Tip Off Tournament, Nov. 27-28 at the Capital Centre with American, Navy and Maryland and the ECAC Holiday Festival, Dec. 27-29 at Madison Square Garden with Holy Cross, Alabama and Princeton.
The Hoyas, 19-9 last season, will face four teams that competed in last year's NCAA tournament and three other squads that joined Georgetown in last year's NIT. St. John's Detroit, Princeton and Holy Cross are the NCAA veterans, Alabama, Seton Hall and St. Bonaventure ended their seasons in the NIT.
Georgetown plays two preseason exhibitions at home, a Blue-Gray intrasquad game Nov. 15 and against St. Mary's of Nova Scotia, Nov. 18.
Coach John Thompson also announced the signing of 6-2, 190-pound guard Terry Fenton, a graduate of Bishop McNamara High School. Fenlon will sit out one year after transfering from St. Mary's (Md.) College. J. Sherlock Holmes, a junior college transfer signed at the beginning of the year, has withdrawn from the university.
