The first Crabpot Tournament and an appearance on Capital Centre ice are the featured dates among an 18-game schedule this season for the Naval Academy ice hockey team.

Navy's Crabpot, fashioned after the yearly Beanpot Tournament in Boston, will be held at the academy's Dahlgren rink, Jan. 14-15. Other participants include Ramapo (N.J.) College, the University of Delaware and Penn State.

Navy will meet the University of Virginia at Capital Centre on Feb. 17 as a 4:15 p.m. prelude to the Washington Capitals-Montreal Canadiens clash that night.

Navy, which opened its season with a 6-4 victory over Villanova on Saturday, also competes in a tournament at the University of Pittsburgh, Feb. 11-12.

The Mids, coached by Steve Gordon and Don Blalock, lost only three players via graduation from last season's 7-9-2 team. Leading the returnees are seniors Billy Hanna, goalie: defenseman Skip Root, son of William & Mary Football coach Jim Root, and forward Bill Dooley.

Eight members of the 20-man squad are from Massachusetts and six from New York State. Root is the lone Virginia player. Maryland is represented by defenseman Kevin Albright of Towson, also the goalie on the Mids' soccer team.
