Lightly raced Worrisome Thing came from off the pace to post an upset in yesterday's $40,000-added Anne Arundel Handicap by 2 1/2 lengths over Northern Sea at Laurel.

Worrisome Penny, the 2-to-5 favorite, finished a well-beaten third.

Worrisome Thing, a 3-year-old daughter of Cyane, was making her seventh career start. She had won her only two allowance starts at Laurel and was assigned a comparatively light 108 pounds. Her jockey, Herb Hinojosa, came in four pounds overweight, lending authority to her clear victory over proven milers.

Northern Sea was the early leader, followed by Luck Penny and Worrisome Thing. They raced that way until the stretch, where Hinojosa sent the winner to be second, while Luck Penny appeared to bear out a bit at the end.

Worrisome Thing ran the mile in a moderate 1:37 2/5 and paid $29.60 to win. Coupled with Northern Sea the exacta of 8 and 7 paid $122.60.

Trainer A. Ridgley White said after the win. "My filly is a good one. I've been pointing her for this race for a while. My only doubt was if she had enough seasoning."

A disappointed Leroy Moyers said of the favorite, "I had no horse down the backstretch. The track may have stung her . . . she had to kick today."

The crowd of 10,848 chilly customers pushed $1,352,283 through the mutuel machines.
