Maryland basketball Coach Lefty Driesell, who spoke angrily to his team after the Terps were embarrassed by Virginia 79-70 Saturday, acknowledge yesterday that he was upset with his squad but didn't recall what he said to the players.
"Mad at the team?" he said. "I'm always mad when we lose. I don't know what I said to them, to tell you the truth."
"We had never lost to Virginia at home in the nine years I've been here. We lost to Duke at home and we hadn't done that in seven years and we lost to (N.C.) State at home and we hadn't done that in four years. I'm just not a good loser. I don't want these guys to be losers."
When asked if the team was upset with him Driesell said, "Mad at me? I don't know and I couldn't care less."
Driesell was vague in his speculation on the first-round game against North Carolina State in the ACC Tournament.
"They beat us twice," said Driesell. "Any time a team beats you twice you should be ready the third time. They just played together better than we did."
