Douglass continued its drive for the Maryland state girls Class B basketball title with a smooth 47-35 victory over Kent of Worton yesterday at Catonsville Community College.

The Eagles advanced to today's 3 o'clock final against Francis Scott Key of Union Bridge.

Douglass and Kent were deadlocked at 2-2 after the first five minutes. But five points from Peaches Elm and four from Helen Harrison helped boost the Eagles to a 13-7 advantage at the end of the first quarter.

Kent rallied in the opening minutes of the second period, pulling to within two, 15-13, on six points from Wanda Dorsey. But a 10-footer by Carol Weems and two free throws and a layup from Harrison moved Douglass ahead, 21-13, with 2:23 left in the half.

Keht's Lisa Orem converted a midcourt steal into a layup to cut the deficit to 23-17. But a jumper and a layup from Wanda Proctor lifted the Eagles to a 27-17 margin at intermission.

After falling behind by 14 points in the third quarter, Kent narrowed the gap to 33-27 with two minutes left in the period on four points by Toni Johnson. Elm broke the Trojans' momentum with her fourth basket of the quarter. Douglass led at the end of three quarters, 37-29.

The Eagles ran off six straight points midway through the last period to take a 44-33 advantage.
