"Irish Mike" Baker of Washington will battle Philadelphia's Jimmy Savage in a 10-round middle-weight bout, the main event of the Schlitz Parade of Future Boxing Champions, tonight at the D.C. Armory.
The Baker-Savage matchup will highlight a 10-bout program beginning at 7:30.
The biweekly pro boxing tournament is scheduled to run until May 24, when a champion will be crowned in each weight division. It is a double-elimination tournament and is open to anyone.
Baker (30-9-1), has not fought since earning a decision over Mike Avan on the Ken Norton-Jimmy Young card in Las Vegas Nov. 5.
Savage is a hard puncher with a record of 13-12-1, including a knockout of Frankie Kolovant and a draw with the Leo Saenz last year.
In the lightweight division, Robert Brumfield will meet Craig Stevens, Dave Lytle will fight Leonard Langley and Otis Hooper will face Cornelius Curton. In the welter weight bracket, James Tinsley will meet Richard Jackson and C.J. Faison goes against Muhammed El. In the middleweight section, Dalton Swift will battle Mike Farrell, Odell Leonard meets Stanley Jackson and Wade Lee fights John Polivali. In the heavyweight division, George Williams takes on Richard Claiborne.
