All local tracks but the Dorsey, Md., oval will be in action for this weekend's openers. Beltsville (Md.) Speedway has a 35-lapper for late-model sportsman class cars as its inaugural feature Friday night. The nine-race card on the paved half-miler starts at 8 p.m.
Saturday night, the paved Old Dominion Speedway feature in Manassas will be two 25-lap events for street stock sedans. Late-models and limited-sportsman cars are also on the nine-race program at 8 p.m. over the three-eighths-mile track.
Four dirt ovals also stage regular stock car programs on weekends. Winchester (Va.) and, later this moht, Dorsey, race Saturday nights; Potomac Raceway, Budds Creek, Md., and Hagerstown Sunday afternoons. Dorsey has the only Figure Eight races in this area.
Today's drag race feature is a meet for Pro Stockers over the 220-yard straightaway at Old Dominion at 2 p.m. Last year's International Hot Rod Association champion, Lee Edwards, of Bealton, Va., heads the entries. Speeds up to 160 miles per hour have been reached on the short strip.
More than 150 riders are expected for today's four-hour off-road motorcycle race at Reston, starting at 11 a.m. The eight-mile course operated by the Reston Dirt Riders Club is near the intersection of Route 606 and Reton Avenue.
