Marty West of Columbia Country Club and Jack Skilling of Chevy Chase Club each won two matches yesterday in the Maryland State Golf Association Amateur tournament at Talbot Country Club. Thus, today's 36-hole final tees off at 9 a.m. as a Washington-area exclusive.

Skilling, 1977 capital-area junior of the year, was two over par in a morning quarterfinal match and eliminated former Metro Schoolboy champ Wayne DeFrancesco, who earlier in the week qualified for the Virginia Amateur, evened the match on the 16th hole but Skilling won the final two with pars.

Skilling, at 17 reigning Maryland and Middle Atlantic Junior titlist bound for Stanford at Summer's end, then shot three under par and ousted Butch Mielke of Crofton, 4 and 3, in an afternoon semifinal.

West. Maryland Amateur victor in 1973 and 1974 and present Maryland Open champ, went 4 up after five holes against Paul Celano of Rolling Road and won his morning match, 3 and 2.

In the afternoon former Masters and U.S. Open participant West went out in 34 for a 3-up lead over John Kyle of Congressional.

After losing No. 10. West birdied the 11th and 14th holes for a 4-up lead and went on to close out Kyle, 4 and 3.
