Dave's Friend, a 3-year-old colt never beaten to the finish line, made it six for six yesterday in the $50,000 added Marylander Handicap at Pimlico. He held off the late challenge of Star De Naskra by a length, running the 1 1/8 miles in 1:48 2/5 to eclipse the track record by two-fifths of a second.

Sensitive Prince was third, six lengths farther back.

Dave's Friend, making his first start beyond seven furlongs, took the lead with Sensitive Prince second on the outside. Jockey Vince Bracciale kept the winner clearly in the lead down the backstretch and around the turn. Sensitive Prince made his move after three quarters but came up empty.

In the stretch, Star De Naskra ranged up on the outside with a late surge but Bracciale tapped Dave's Friend twice with the whip and the son of Friend's Choice continued on resolutely to the wire.

The winner, loser of one race by disqualification, is being pointed for the Monmouth Park Invitational on Aug. 5.

It was the last day of the Pimlico summer meeting and betting and attendance was up slightly compared to its last meet. Apprentice Ron Franklin ran away with the riding title with 119 victories. Trainer Grover Delp led the conditioners with 95 wins.
