Grand National stock star Darrell Waltrip will race tonight in the 100-lap (53.7-mile) feature at Beltsville Speedway, driving his own late model sportsman class Gatorade Chevrolet.
Waltrip second in a 200-lapper at Old Dominion in Manassas last week, has won four Grand National events and $177.000 this season. At 31, he is the youngest of current major race winners.
His chief rivals will be Bobby Ballentine, Baltimore, winner of six Beltsville features this season in a Chevrolet, and three-time winner Jack Bland, defending track champion from Riverdale, driving a new Pontiac Ventura.
Time trials begin at 6:30 p.m., racing at 8. The same time schedule obtains for Old Dominion's show tomorrow night, with ministock sedans programmed in addition to the regular fare of late model sportsman and street stock cars.
Spring cars, with and without wings, will be in action at nearby dirt tracks this weekend.
Tonight, the winged supersprints race at Williams Grove, Pa., in the second leg of the annual KARS summer series. They meet at Selinsgrove, Pa., tomorrow night and at Hagerstown, Md., Sunday night.
The "World of Outlaws" sprinters race with wings tonight at Lincoln Speedway, Abbottstown, Pa. The same field competes at Lincoln tomorrow night but without the airfoils.
