MacDiarmida won the 14th running of the $50,000-added Lexinton Handicap yesterday at Belmont Park, earning $34,110 for owner J.N. Torsney.
The 3-year-old brown colt got off to a good start on the Widener Turf Course under the urgings of Jean Cruguet, moved into second place at the three-quarter panel and won driving, edging John Henry at the finish by a head.
The Flint Schulhofer-trained entry covered the 11/16th miles in 1:41 and paid $4, $3 and $2.60. John Henry returned $4.20 and $4.00 and Askikaga was good for $6.00 for third.
Lotta Honey, ridden by 57-year-old Robert Lee Baird, withstood a late bid by 45-to-1 shot Nalees Miss to win the $32,400 Smart Deb Handicap at Arlington Park.
Nalees Miss finished second, 1 1/4 lengths back in the 1 1/8-mile race for 3-year-old fillies.
Pretty Delight, which set the pace for five furlong before yielding to Lotta Honey, finished third.Earlier, Lotta Honey and Baird had won the Jaurence Armour Handicap.
Lotta Honey earned $19,440 and paid $5.20, $3.40 and 2.80 Nalees Miss returned $19.80 and 7.20. Pretty Delight paid $4.80.
In other features races, Gay Candy won Timonium's Seature, paying $3.40, $3 and $2.60; Mongo Queen took Monmouth Park's headliner, returning $19, $7.20 and $3.60 and John U To Berry won at Delaware Park, good for $6.80, $3.20 and $2.80.
