The nationally-ranked University of Maryland women's basketball team will tip off its 1978-79 schedule on Nov. 16 with an exhibition against the People's Republic of China national touring team. The Terrapins will play 19 games, 12 at Cole Field House.

Nine of the teams Coach Chris Weller's women will play are ranked in the nation's top 20. On Jan. 3 the women's team will join Coach Lefty Drisell's men's team in a double-header against North Carolina.

In late December the Terps will play in the first Orange Bowl women's tournament in Miami. They will compete against USLA, Tennessee, Mississippi, Delta State and Penn State in the tournament, one of three they will play in this season.

An additional first for the Maryland women this season will be a trip to Madison Square Garden Jan. 6 to play Louisiana State University.

In the first regular-season game the Terps will host James Madison University on Nov. 29.
