Bob Lemon, who took over the New York Yankees in midseason and guided them from squabbling noncontenders to hobbling world champions, has been named the American League manager of the year by the Associated Press. Lemon edged Milwaukee's George Bamberger, 149-142, in voting by sports writers and broadcasters.

In the National League, Dave Parker was player of the year and Vida Blue was the outstanding pitcher.Team members are Steve Gravey (1b), Davey Lopes (2b), Pete Rose (3b), Larry Bowa (ss), Jack Clark (of), George Foster (of), Parker (of), Ted Simons (c) , Blue (1hp) and Gaylord Perry (rhp).

The Sporting News' American League honor roll lists outfielder Jim Riceas the outstanding player and left-hander Ron Guidry as the class of the moundsmen. Also on the squad are Rod Carew (1b), Frand White (2b), Graig Nettles (3b), Robin Yount (ss), Larry Hisle (of), Fred Lynn (of), Rusty Staub (dh), Guidry (lhp) and Jim Palmer (rhp).

The Taxes Rangers, who reportedly lost almost $2 million along with the American League West title last year, continued cleaning house yesterday.

First baseman Mike Hargrove, utilityman Kurt Bevacqua and catcher Bill Fahey have been sent west in exchange for San Diego Padres outfielder Oscar Gamble, catcher Dave Roberts and $300,000.
