In other men's college games, Navy takes on South Florida in the opening round of the Big Sun tournament in St. Petersburg, Fla.; the University of the District of Columbia meets York College of Jamaica, N.Y., in the Scranton (Pa.) Holiday tournament, and Montgomery College-Takoma Park tangles with the Towson State junior varsity in the Eastern Shore Holiday Classic at Chesapeake College in Wye Mills, Md., at 6:30 p.m.

American (5.3), loser of its first three contests, won its fifth with a 105-87 romp against St. Mary's college on Wednesday night. Voelkel, 6-foot-5 senior reserve, made four of four shots from the floor to extend his consecutive field goal mark to 24, one better than the NCAA record set by Randy Morgan of Samford (Ala.) in 1974.

Navy's Kevin Sinnett, a senior forward currently averaging 20 a game, can move up a notch to third on the Academy's all-time scoring list tonight in Florida. Sinnett needs 13 points to move ahead of Don Lange's total of 1.344 set between 1951 and 1954. Navy is 5.2 after losing to Temple, 73.47
