Tonight's area basketball contest features a battle for the top spot in the Atlantic Coast Conference women's rankings with the University of Maryland's Terrapins entertaining the Wolfpack of North Carolina State at Cole Field House at 7:30 p.m.

Maryland, ranked third nationally and 10-2 overall, will oppose its fifth top-10 opponent in 18 days. Although the Terps beat State, 83-76, Dec. 8 in a tournament, that loss does not count in conference standings and both teams enter tonight's game with 2-0 ACC marks.

The Wolfpack is led in scoring by Genia Beasley (19.) and former Robinson High School star Ginger Rouse (15.5). State is 10-3 and ranked eighth nationally.

Two games for the price of one will be available at two sites tonight as Howard and Catholic hold double- headers with a women's game and a men's game.

Delaware State's women play the Bison at 5:45. The men begin action at 8 p.m.

Catholic's women's team opens at 6 p.m.-contest against Towson State followed by the Rider-Catholic men's contest at 8.

In other women's action tonight, George Mason hosts American at 7 o'clock and the University of the District of Columbia (UDC) plays Southeastern at Carroll, also at 7 o'clock.

In men's games, Navy visits Yale at 4 p.m. and UDC hosts St. Augustine's at Dunbar at 8 p.m.
