Six of the nation's top seven gymnastics clubs and the Canadian national championship team will compete today in the second annual Nations Capital Cup meet.

Sponsored by the MarVaTeens Gymnastics Club of Rockville, the meet will be held at Old Mill High School in Millerville, near Glen Burnie.

The invitational will have 80 competitors, almost half of whom are at the elite, or international, level.

Meet directors Ruth Ann McBride and Gary Anderson said yesterday the nationally ranked teams competing are: 1, Connecticut Gym Club, Milford, Conn.; 2, Parketters, Allentown, Pa.; 3, Mid-American Twisters, Chicago; 5, MarVaTeens; 6, Gym Dandy's, Washington, Pa.; 7, Niagara Frontier, Buffalo, N.Y.

The Canadian champion, Gymnix Gym Club, is from Montreal.

Three all-star teams will be drawn from area clubs of Specs (McLean), eLeetes (Fairfax), Tumbleweeds (Glen Burnic), Royal T's (Bowie), Lucky Charms (Waldorf) Felines (Fairfax Station) and Docksiders (Annapolis).

Team competitions start at 9 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. The top 10 gymnasts in each of the four basic events -- uneven bars, balance beam, vault and floor exercises -- will compete for individual honors at 8 p.m. Admission is $2.50 in the afternoon, $3.50 at night, with children's tickets a dollar cheaper at each session.
