Robinson placed third in the Virginia state tourney after DeProspero won at 98 pounds. Jeff Richardson finished second at 145.

DeProspero's 4-3 victory over Darryl Cuffee of Deep Creek culminated an undefeated season for the sophomore.

"The first day he walked in I knew he had the potential to be a state champion," said Robinson Coach John Epperly. "I was just concerned that the wrestlers he'd meet in the state tournament might be a little too long (tall) for him."

Richardson failed to repeat as 145- pound champion when he dropped an excition 8-4 match to Maury's John Davis, last year's 138-pound winner. Richardson, a senior, lost to Davis in the tournament two years ago and placed third as Davis won the first of his three state titles.

Meadows concluded his string of impressive tournament matches -- he also won titles in the Gunston District and Northern Region tourneys -- with a 123 thrashing of 132-pound opponent Curtis Sendak of Douglas Freeman.
