The refusal of the Maryland Racing Association's Thoroughbred Board to reinstate four jockeys suspended in the celebrated Valentine's Day 1975 fix at Bowie sat not at all well with area horsemen. Their chapter of the Horsemen's Benevolent and Protective Association is out with a call to Gov. Harry Hughes to remove the five-man panel. The HBPA area president, Fendall Clagett, siad the decision only heaped fuel on various earlier complaints -- "We think they are putting personal prejudices above all else."
Dan Harwood, 6-5 all-regional JuCo gaurd for Montgomery College in Rockville, where he scored 1,137 points (26.3 average) in two years, has signed a grant from Boston University. There Peary H.S. alum Harwood will join Steve Wright, BU senior-to-be out of neighboring Einstein H.S., who will cocaptain the 1979-80 Terriers after leading the '78-79 squad in scoring (20.8) and just about everything else and winning a spot on the U.S. Intercontinental Cup team for a three-week six-country summer tour.Plus 6-9 Maryland all-stater Dick Buis from Woodward High (where BU two years ago found guard Rick Schwartz, voted "unsung hero" of the past season's 17-9 Terriers) . . .
