Derrik Holmes of New Carrollton, Md, will take another step toward what he hopes will be an eventual shot at the world featherweight championship when he fights Earle Large in the 10-round main event on the Schlitz Parade of Champions boxing card tonight at the D.C. Armory.

The first of six bouts will begin at 7:30.

The 24-year-old Holmes (10-0-1) will fight again, in January, before meeting Nicky Perez for the North American Boxing Federation junior featherweight title in Las Vegas Feb. 9.

"This fight against Large is another stepping stone toward my goal, the featherweight championship," said Holmes. "I want to win the junior featherweight crown first, then step up to the featherweight division. This is only my 12th pro fight but I've had more than 100 amateur bouts.

"I have to respect Large (37-16-1) because he has had more pro fights and I've only been the distance once," said Holmes. "But I'm ready."

In other bouts, Alf Coffin will meet George Williams in a six-round heavyweight match, Javon Pratt will take on Reggie Lee in a light heavyweight bout and Jeff Passero will fight Randy Mitchell in a welterweight contest.
