Laurie Keiser, 14, of Moundsville, Minn., won the all-around competition with a score of 36.3 today at the third annual Nation's Capital Cup gymnastics meet at Old Mill High School.
In team competition the MarVa-Teens of Rockville, Md., won the Nation's Capital Cup with 172.8 points, defeating 42 other teams from 18 states, including 10 state champions and last year's winner, Grossfeld's American Gold of Milford, Conn., which came in second with 172.3 points.
Representing her hometown team, Jonathan's Living Seagulls, Keiser had a 9.30 on floor exercise, 9.25 in vault, 9.20 on the beam, and 8.55 on the uneven bars. Her total gave the team enough points (102.9) to vault into second place in the miniteam (three members) final standings.
First place in miniteam finals went to the Willingboro gym team of Mount Laurel, N.J., with 105.05 points.
Suzie Van Slyke led Willingboro teammates Donna Mosely and Michelle Krupa to first place by placing second to Keiser in the all-around category with 36.00 points. Third place in all-around went to Lisa McVay, 12, of Waldorf, Md., with 35.95 points.
The top 10 individual in each of the four categories will return for Sunday night's finals.
