Freshmen Mark Jones scored 10 of St. Bonaventure's last 12 points as the Bonnies squelched a second-half American University comeback for a 75-69 win in the opening game of the Manufactures Hanover Classic tonight.

American plays Air Force, a 64-51 loser to Iona, in Saturday's consoltion at 7 p.m.

St. Bonnaventure, now 5-2, led 57-43, with six minutes to play but American rallied behind Boo Bowers and Robin Hoey and tied the game at 61 on a corner jump shot by Ray McCarthy with 2:01 to play.

AU fell behind early in the second half on cold shooting. Then the Eagles outscored the Bonnies, 18-4, to close the gap. Hoey scoring seven points and Bowers five.

American then kept Jones and he made eight points in the closing minutes from the foul line, allowing St. Bonnaventure to pull away.

Bowers, whose average was 26.8 going into the game, scored a game-high 26 points. AU is not 4-5.

Earl Belcher scored 25 points for the Bonnies, who played without Coach Jim Satalin. He was not present because his 2-year-old son was undergoing tests at a hospital.
