Georgia Tech, seeking a replacement for fired football coach Pepper Rodgers, has expressed interest in Pitt's Jackie Sherrill -- and Sherrill says he will talk with the ACC's new member, if the request is made through proper channels. He hedges that he is "not really interested in leaving Pitt" . . .
Bon voyage to Morgan Hout, receiver coach at Maryland the past five years, moving along at 32 to similar duties at U. of Richmond under the new Spider man Dal Shealy. Richmond lauds Hout's recruiting abilities as well as his tutelage of such fine Terp pass-catchers as Chuck White and Vince Kinney, and plans to have him work "especially Northern Virginia and the D.C. area" . . .

Meanwhile, at Catholic U., final NCAA Division III stats bear out the Cardinals as the national defensive leaders. Repetitious, but still sad, story: Two U. of Nevada-Reno basketballers (Aaron Cusick and Alvin Alexander) arraigned on grand larceny charges (removing property from College Inn on campus) . . . Same again at quiet Frostburg (Md.) State: The Bobcats' top two players suspended from school for a year. They are Lewie Thomas from Walkersville's Thomas Johnson High -- a senior who was cover art on Frostburg's press guide and living up to it for the current 5-1 team -- and junior Gus Durr from Suitland. Officials say the discipline stems from a break-in and theft at the College last May; that after drawing probation in the spring, they didn't live up to all its terms . . .
