Calvin Garrett scored 24 points and Oral Roberts University came back from a 48-41 second-half deficit tonight to defeat Georgetown, 76-65, at Mabee Center.
The 20th ranked Hoyas fell to 10-4 while Oral Roberts upped its record to 5-6.
Georgetown lost sophomore center Ed Spriggs with an ankle injury with nine minutes remaining in the second half.
With the score tied at 50, just after Spriggs was injured.Georgetown Coach John Thompson was hit with a double technical foul. The Titans' Steve Bontrager hit three of four foul shots and when Garrett followed with a jump shot, the Hoyas trailed by five at 55-50.
The Titans finished their 18-5 burst to take a 59-53 lead and Georgetown never recovered.
Eric Floyd led the Hoyas with 16 points while Craig Shelton added 15. John Duren chipped in with 14 points, but an aggressive Titan defense held the senior guard scoreless the second half.
Oral Roberts also received 17 points from 6-foot-1 senior guard Robert Griffin, 15 from Antonio Martin and 12 from Bontrager as the Titans defeated Georgetown the second consecutive year. Last season, Oral Roberts won, 75-74, at Georgetown.
Thompson's argument, which brought on the technicals, was that Spriggs was pushed down, causing his injury.
The Hovas trailed, 65-59, with 3:04 remaining, but Ricky Baskin scored on a jumper and Martin followed with a basket and a foul shot to give the Titans a 70-59 lead with 2:18 left. Georgetown could come no closer.
Garrett, a 6-foot-6 senior forward, shot 11-19 from the floor and grabbed five rebounds. Martin was the game's high rebounder with 12.
Duren shot seven for 10 in the opening 20 minutes, but couldn't connect on his three attempts in the second half. Floyd shot eight for 13, snared eight rebounds and had five assists.
