Catholic University ended its last season in Division I in embarrassing fashion tonight, falling, 112-59, to Old Dominion in the first round of the ECAC-Southern Division tournament.

Catholic finished 8-19 for the season, lowing all nine games in February. Next season Catholic will play at the Division III level.

Catholic Coach, Jack Kvancz insisted the school's decision to deemphasize sports did not affect his players' performance tonight.

"It really didn't" he said. "We had good shots, but they just weren't falling. We were wide open, but we couldn't hit. So at the end of the five or six-minute mark, the game was over. When you shoot 27 percent in the first half, what can you expect?"

Not much, Catholic was fortunate to trail by only 53-28 at intermission. ODU (23-4) shot at a 68.2 clip the first 20 minutes, its best shooting half of the season. The Monarchs cooled to 51.1 percent in the second half, but Catholic could manage only 41.4 in the final period. The Cardinals made only a third of their shots in the game.

The 53-point margin was by far the Cardinals' worst loss of the season Maryland had beaten CU by 34 points in December.
