Young Burke played his way into Georgetown University's athletic hall of fame and when the 1979 inductions came around, he was honored in a special, separate ceremony before the event. This week, he was to have received a special award, along with Augie Lio, the Hoya lineman of yesteryear who made it into the national college football hall of fame recently. That was to be at the GU Gridiron Club's fourth annual awards banquet this Friday, Georgetown Holiday Inn, 6:30; now it will be an extra emotional occasion . . .

Gerry Faust, football counterpart to basketball's Morgan Wootten of De Matha, received an award recently as national high school coach of the year for his work at Cincinnati's Moeller High Faust said only one college post could lure him away from Moeller, a Catholic school -- "a job with the same type of environment: Notre Dame" . . . Moeller has won 103 of 110 games over the past decade and is tentatively matched against Rancho Cordova (Calif.), 102-6-1 over the same span, for a showdown in Japan next fall . . .
