The timing was near-perfect yesterday at Four Mile Run Park as the Alexandria Dukes humbled the Rocky Mount Pines, 6-1, to sweep a three-game series.

The Dukes scored three runs in the sixth inning just as the sun broke through the clouds to post their 10th victory in their last 11 games. The Dukes now are 12-12.

Rocky Mount scored its only run in the first inning on triples by J.C. Daniels and Gary Cicatiello. The Dukes tied the contest in the second inning when Russ Brett singled and scored on Jeff Rudolph's double.

Duke pitcher Jack Hobbs struck out five and picked up his second win of the season. With one out in the seventh, Hobbs walked Jim Gazbella and Joe McCann. Daniels grounded into a force out at second, and Larry Caprico grounded out to end the inning.

The Dukes got rolling in the sixth inning on a Mike Fitzgerald double and a walk by Ron Russell. Brett then forced Russell, but advancing Fitzgerald. A single by Bob Boyce and double by Rudolph drove in three runs.

Russell's single in the seventh drove in Victor Rodriguez, who extended his hitting streak to 11 games, and Fitzgerald scored on a wicked badhop hit by Brett for the sixth run.
