Jimmy Connors, Harold Solomon and eight other players ranked among the top 20 in the world by the Association of Tennis Professionals' computer will head a field of 60 in the $175,000 Washington Star International Tennis Championships to be played at Rock Creek Tennis Stadium July 19-27.
Spain's Jose Higueras, France's Yannick Noah, Chile's Hans Gildemeister and Paraguay's Victor Pecci are among those entered here who are ranked No. 1 in their respective countries.
"We've got an extremely balanced field this year," said tournament co-chairman John harris. "The fact that we've signed so many top players from so many different countries supports that fact."
Also on that list of top internationals are Italy's Corrado Barazzutti, Mexico's Raul Ramirez, Australia's Phil Dent, Ecuador's Andres Gomez, Yugoslavia's Zeljko Franulovic and Bolivia's Mario Martinez.
Gene Mayer, Eddie Dibbs and Brian Gottfried will join Solomon and Connors (ranked No. 3 in the world and top-seeded here) as the top domestic players in the tournament.
Qualifying-round matches will be July 19-20. First-round matches will be played July 21-22, the second round July 23, the third round July 24, quarterfinals July 25, semifinals July 26 and the final Sunday, July 27.
