Freshman Bob Romaine scored 20 points in a reserve role to lead Navy past Robert Morris, 71-67, in a non-league game tonight.

Romaine, a 6-foot-2 guard from Park Ridge, N.J., scored 12 points in the second half, including six of six free throws. He made the last two foul shots with 12 seconds left to hold off the fast-finishing visitors, who twice cut the margin to two points in the final minute.

Romaine made seven of 11 shots from the floor and had three assists in 26 minutes. Richard Davidson finished with 11 points and Jim Kuzma had 10 for the Mids, now 3-3. Robert Morris dropped to 2-4.

The visitors took a 6-1 lead early in the game before Kuzman made three straight field goals for a 7-6 Navy lead with 14:09 left in the half. The Mids led, 36-21, at halftime.

Robert Morris rallied in the second half, however, on the shooting of substitute Chip Grant (15 points), who made seven of 10 shots from the floor. sGrant's last basket cut the Navy margin to 67-65 with 55 seconds left, but first Chuck Greene and then Romaine made two free throws in one-and-one opportunities to ensure the victory.

Navy made four fewer field goals than Robert Morris (26 of 58, compared to 30 for 63 for the visitors), but sank 19 of 27 from the free-throw line. Robert Morris finished seven for 12 from the line.
