Undefeated Da's Baby, conditioned with three prep races by trainer Joe Tuminelli, made her first start in an added-money event yesterday and won the $40,000-added Virginia Belle Stakes at Bowie by a length over favored Privacy.
Parasail hung on for third position, more than a length back.
Veteran jocket Jack Kurtz, previously winless at the meeting, rode Da's Baby over six furlongs in 1:11 4/5.
Da's Baby made her debut in a $20,000 claiming race, then added two allowance wins to her string before testing Privacy and Bannockburn, also undefeated before yesterday.
Owner Thomas J. Kennedy purchased the daughter of Sail Ahoy privately for an undisclosed sum. The bay has now earned $46,000.
Jockey Bill Passmore, who had ridden Da's Baby in her previous three wins, chose to ride Privacy yesterday. He said, "Privacy didn't like the dirt hitting her early. She ran in the stretch, though, and was getting to the winner."
Da's Baby returned $20.80 to win and topped a 4-5 exacta worth $62.80.
The crowd of 12,419 wagered $1,776,851 on the 10-race card, the money figure representing a drop of nine percent compared to last year.
