Jeff Mack converted the second of two free throws with one second left in the third overtime to give Catholic a 38-37 victory overy Colgate at Hamilton N.Y.

With the score tied, 37-37, and 56 seconds left in the third overtime, the Red Raiders' Mike Ferrara tied up Cardinal Jay Haigler and forced a jump ball, which Colgate controlled. With 12 seconds left, Ferrara forced a jumper over two Catholic defenders which came up short. Bill Dankos grabbed the ball off the front of the rim for the Cardinals and found Joe Colletta at half court. Colletta went down the right side and found Mack, who drove to the basket, drawing the foul from Rob Giordano with one second left.

After Mack missed the first free throw, Colgate called timeout in a vain attempt to break Mack's concentration with his second shot.

Butch Hill had given Colgate the lead, 37-35, on a dunk with 2:45 left in the third overtime. Colletta hit a jumper from the left corner to tie the game for the Cardinals 20 seconds later.

Down, 32-27, with 17 minutes left in regulation, Catholic froze the ball for 10 minutes. When the Cards finally did break the ice, Colgate came up empty on its next three possessions, allowing Catholic to pull within one, 32-31, on a Colletta jumper from the free throw line.

With Catholic down, 35-31, Mack hit a 15 footer with 1:30 left and Colletta hit a jumper from the left corner with three seconds left to send the game into overtime.
