Bob Adkins pitched a two-hitter and Angel Rodriguez drove in three runs last night as the Alexandria Dukes defeated Lynchburg, 7-3, in a Carolina League game before 511 at Four Mile Run Park.

The victory improved Alexandria's record to 12-15 while the first-place Mets dropped to 16-13.

Rodriguez drove in the first three Alexandria runs with singles in the first and third innings. With Connor McGehee running from first, Rodriguez drilled a single to center and McGehee came around to score the first Duke run. In the third, Rodriguez singled in Andy Snaith and Rafael Belliard to pad the lead to 3-0.

Rodriguez opened the sixth by singling and stealing second base. Left fielder Joe Fiori doubled Rodriguez home with a drive to deep center. One pitch later, Bob Miscik singled to score Fiori and the Dukes led, 5-0.

Lynchburg reliever John Violette came in and promptly wild pitched Miscik to third. Jim Felt brought Miscik home with a single. McGehee ended the Duke scoring with a 400-foot homer in the seventh.

The Mets, who stranded 13 runners, scored three times in the ninth by bunching five hits off Alexandria reliever Alec McCullock, who had come on in the eighth inning.
