After aggravating his groin injury in practice Monday, Johan Cruyff will probably miss the Washington Diplomats' weekend road trip to Dallas and Toronto. And goalkeeper Jim Brown has developed tendinitis in his leg.

Cruyff was drilling on the team's practice field when he stepped on top of a ball and strained the already tender groin muscle.

At this point, it doesn't look very good for Johan making the trip," Coach Ken Furphy said yesterday.

Brown, who has started all except one game this season and has been one of the few Dips to play above average the last six weeks, will make the trip. But backup Jim Messemer, this year's second-round draft choice from Texas Tech, will travel in case Brown has difficulty.

Brown suffered an unrelated ankle injury in early May when he jammed the foot in a divot on the practice field while running sprints. He went to the Sports Medicine Center in Chevy Chase midway through yesterday's practice to begin treatment.

Furphy also has to worry about nine other players suffering from various injuries, including regulars Benny Dargle (probable starter, stomach muscle), Ivan Belfiore (probable, groin pull), Ole Mikkelsen (doubtful, sprained ankle) and Peter Carr (probable, bruised thigh).
