Injured Redskin Russ Grimm (knee), Charlie Brown (knee) and Wilbur Young (shoulder) probably will not play in Sunday's final preseason game, against New England, according to Coach Joe Gibbs.

Wilbur might come along faster than we think, but the other two are really doubtful," Gibbs said. Grimm said his knee has improved; Brown suited up for practice but could not put full weight on his leg.

Grimm is competing for one of the few starting spots still open, contesting Jerry Scanlan for the left guard position. The winner will be determined in part by Grimm's health.

Gibbs also has not decided who his starting running backs will be But, he said, it seemed likely that veterans Coy Bacon and Perry Brooks would be starting on the defensive line.

Defensive Coordinator Richie Petitbon and Gibbs were pleased enough with the way their front four played against Baltimore Saturday to pull back from threats to revamp the unit. Brooks was in danger of being demoted. Now he seems entrenched at tackle, especially with Young hurt, unless he plays poorly againt New England. And Bacon has managed to hold off the challenges, for now, of both Fred Cook and Mat Mendenhall, who is just coming back from a knee injury. Cook was cut Monday.
