Branko Segota scored both goals to lead host Fort Lauderdale to a 2-0 victory over the Calgary Boomers last night and send the Strikers into the quarterfinals of the North American Soccer League playoffs.
Segota had also scored all three of Fort Lauderdale's goals in a 3-1 victory Sunday in the first game of the best-of-the-series. Last night he beat goalkeeper Jurgen Stars at 9:30 and again at 82:13 as last year's Soccer Bowl runner-up wrapped up the series. Fort Lauderdale's opponent in the quarterfinals next week has not been determined.
In other playoff games, Minnesota won its best-of-three series with Tulsa by defeating the visiting Roughnecks, 1-0, in a shootout; Roger Davies scored both goals as Settle evened its series with Chicago with a 2-0 victory in Seattle; David Moss scored in the first half on a free kick as Tampa Bay defeated host Vancouver, 1-0, for a sweep of that series, and five San Diego players scored as the Soccers defeated visiting Portland, 5-1, to even their series at 1-1.
The Sounders-Sting series moves to Chicago Sunday for the deciding game, and Portland and San Diego will play the third game of their in San Diego, also on Sunday.
