Frank Brown caught a two-yard scoring pass from Kelly Raber and Floyd Allen set a school record with his 19th career touchdown as Virginia Military Institute upset Army, 14-7, yesterday in West Point, N.Y.

It was the first victory for VMI (2-0) in a 10-game series dating to 1917.

All the scoring came in the first half. Army (0-2) rallied late in the game behind sophomore quarterback Bryan Allem, who moved the Cadets to a first down on the VMI eight, but a fourth-down pass was incomplete in the end zone.

Gerald Walker led Army with 98 yards rushing. Allen ran for 61 yards before leaving the game with bruised ribs.

After a scoreless first period in which Army quarterback Jerryl Bennett was intercepted for the first of four times, a fumble by Walker was recovered by VMI's Kyle Weidlich. Raber directed an eight-play, 48-yard drive, with Allen going off right tackle for the score at 5:20.

Army tied the score at 7-7 with 1:48 remaining in the half. Allen's fumble was recovered at the VMI 20 by John Garrison, and Bennett threw a scoring pass to Larry Pruitt on the next play.
