Dino Ciccarelli scored a hat trick, including the tying goal at 15:24 in the third period, to lift the Minnesota North Stars into a 5-5 deadlock with the Winnipeg Jets last night in Winnipeg.

Ciccarelli poked the puck into the net from a goal-mouth scramble in front of goalie Doug Soetaert.

Ciccarelli had opened the scoring at 3:56 of the first period when he circled in the slot and fired a low wrist shot between Soetaert's legs. The Jets replied at 15:46 when left winger Morris Lukowich converted a rebound while skating across the goal mouth.

Center Dale Hawerchuk put the Jets ahead during a two-man advantage at 19:21 by tipping a pass to the short side of goalie Don Beaupre.

The North Stars got two power play goals in the second period. At 2:02 right winger Al MacAdam deflected a shot from the point. Then at 6:13 center Bobby Smith took a puck off the boards and made a low wrist shot from the right faceoff circle.

The Jets tied the score, 3-3, when Doug Smail capped a three-on-one break with 24 seconds left in the second period.

Ciccarelli scored his second of the evening on a power play at 8:21 of the third period with a wrist shot from the point. Smail notched his second while the Jets were shorthanded at 10:48 to tie the game, 4-4. Lucien Deblois put the Jets briefly ahead on a backhand shot at 13:56.
