Howard scored the last five points and defeated Mississippi Valley, 66-62, tonight after reserve forward Lawrence Norfleet led the Bison with 10 points in the second half.

Howard (1-1) trailed, 36-28, at the half but was behind by just two, 38-36, with 15:09 left. Norfleet's two free throws tied the scored at 38 and, after the Delta Devils missed a shot, he sank an eight-foot jumper to give Howard its first lead of that half.

Norfleet tied the score again, at 46, on a basket with 10:31 left. He then stole the ball and passed to Rodney Wright, who was fouled on the layup. The three-point play gave the Bison a 49-46 lead with 10:17 remaining.

Howard then outscored Mississippi Valley, 8-2, to take a 57-48 advantage. James Ratiff had two field goals in that spurt.

But Mississippi Valley, with a 12-2 tear, retook the lead, 60-59, with 2:34 to play. Charles Billups got eight of his game-high 27 points in that run.

Bernard Perry made two free throws for the Bison before Roosevelt Pritchett countered with a field goal for Mississippi Valley's last lead, 62-61, with 1:43 left.
