Snow, and the forecast of more snow, caused the cancellation of the racing card at Bowie Race Course yesterday and postponed several other area sports events, including the American University basketball game against Catholic.

Bowie General Manager Alvin A. Karwacki said cold temperatures and hazardous driving conditions in Maryland also were factors in the decision.

The cancellation was the first of the track's 60-day meet, which runs through March 12 and includes a makeup date. Any future postponements will not be made up..

Racing is scheduled to resume today; post time for the first race is 12.30 p.m.

Charles Town racing also is expected to resume for the first time this week, at 7:15 tonight. A spokesperson said the ground crew worked throughout the day yesterday to have facilities ready. Sunday's action was shut down because of cold weather, Monday and Tuesday were regular off days and Wednesday's card was canceled because of snow.

In area college basketball, American's game at Fort Myer has been rescheduled for Friday, Feb. 19 at 8.
