Rob Romaine scored 24 points and Gary Price had 15 rebounds to lead Navy to a 76-58 victory over Lafayette tonight in Halsey Field House.
The Midshipmen (6-7), playing at home after nine straight road games, made eight of their first 10 shots in the second half to increase a seven-point halftime lead to 51-37. Navy made 15 of 21 shots in the second half and shot 54 percent for the game.
"After nine straight road games, it's nice to get home again. We were getting used to jumping on the bus," said Navy Coach Paul Evans.
The Midshipmen's last previous home game was a 78-66 loss to Holy Cross on Dec. 3.
Sophomores Romaine and Price led Navy's second-half surge. Romaine, who scored 18 points in the half, made a 10-foot base line jumper to open the final half, and after a 15-footer by Myron Simons, Price added three straight inside baskets to give Navy a 45-32 lead.
Three minutes later, Lafayette Coach Will Rackley called his second timeout of the half. Lafayette twice cut the deficit to 12, but never got closer. With seven minutes remaining, Navy moved into a delay offense and settled things by making six of its last nine foul shots.
Lafayette (6-8) was outrebounded, 46-36. In addition to Price's 15 rebounds, Rich Davidson contributed 12 and Simons seven.
Lafayette's leading scorer, Mike Whitman, had 15 points.Lafayette shot just 37 percent for the game, making 23 of 61 shots.
