Darrell Spence scored 25 points, mostly on long jump shots, as Florida A&M held off a second-half rally and defeated Howard, 74-66, in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference game tonight.

Howard fell to 7-7 overall and 4-2 in the MEAC. The Rattlers improved to 7-8 and 3-1.

Florida A & M took 5-0 and 28-17 leads, and led at intermission, 38-29, with Spence scoring 15 first-half points.

The Rattlers built their lead to 12 points, 48-36, with 15:30 remaining.

Then Howard began to whittle the margin and tied the game at 60-60 with 7:41 remaining on two free throws by Bernard Perry.

Perry made three straight jump shots and three foul shots during the comeback and scored all 12 of his points in the second half.

Spence then scored back-to-back baskets to give Florida A&M a four-point lead, but Howard came back to tie the game again at 64-64 with 4:18 remaining, on a dunk by James Terry.

Spence's offense and Howard's turnovers in the next few minutes doomed the Bison.

Forward James Ratiff led Howard with 17 points and eight rebounds.
