George Mason came from behind to tie the game in regulation and then held off Loyola in overtime for a 77-76 victory tonight.

John Neihoff stole the ball with 28 seconds remaining in regulation and scored his only basket of the game to force overtime. Maurice Hicks of Loyola missed a long jump shot just before the buzzer.

The Patriots jumped off to a 71-67 lead in the overtime on a jump shot by center Andre Gaddy and two free throws by guard Carlos Yates. Guard Andy Bolden's free throw with six seconds remaining clinched the game by giving Mason a 77-74 lead.

George Mason used 10 points by Yates and seven each by Gaddy and Bolden to take a 34-29 halftime lead. Mason led, 46-39, with 13:57 to play but Loyola scored the next 11 points for a 50-46 lead. Tom Caraher had four points in the run.

Mason didn't catch up until Neihoff stole the ball from Hicks near the Loyola basket.

Gaddy led the Patriots with 24 points and Yates, the team's leading scorer with a 16-point average, had 19 points. Bolden added 16.

Caraher had 21 points and Hicks 19 for the losers. Both teams are now 10-10.
